Update on New Warehouse

On October 1, 2014, as promised, the new warehouse identified as warehouse #8 was put into service. All of the pieces have finally come together. The sprinkler system went into service on September the 30^th. Phil Allen and Larry Ruff have completed most of the electrical wiring. The sprinkler room will be completed during the week of October the 6^th. There are a few items of landscaping yet to be completed.

We did encounter a few obstacles along the way with the first being an unusual amount of top soil in the building site location. That was corrected by removing the extra top soil and bringing in very good clay fill from the south end of the property. The second was an issue with the design of the sprinkler system which our general contractor Miller Construction handled very professionally. The third was an issue with the south overhead door and the ability to raise it as high as we wanted. This problem was also overcome with some new engineering methods.

Overall, the project has come along as planned, on time, and on budget. There are no high tech items in this warehouse other than the overhead lights and an exhaust fan that comes on when motion is detected and then automatically shuts of when there has been no motion for 20 minutes. This time is programmable as needed. Natural light was a concern in the warehouse so skylights and fiberglass side panels were installed to help light the warehouse during the daylight hours. The overhead door entrances have been raised to 18’ to allow a better margin of safety as lift trucks enter the building.

The warehouse is presently being used to store kiln dried packaged lumber ready to sell that may not turn as often as some items. If needed, kiln dried lumber on sticks could be stored in this warehouse during times of high kiln production.
