Latin Name: Platanus Occidentalis
Characteristics of the Tree: This large tree grows up to 53m (175ft) in height and up to 6m (20ft) in diameter.
Characteristics of the Wood: The fine pale brown, even textured wood is usually straight grained and the distinctive rays produce "flecks" when quarter sawn.
Common Uses: Cabinetry, furniture, joinery, turning, doors and veneer.
Workability: The wood works well with hand and machine tools. When planing keep knifes sharp. It accepts glues well.
Finishing: It accepts stains well and can be polished to a good finish.
